OFI Mission Statement: Ornamental Fish International (OFI) is a non-political, non-profit-making organization and has the following objectives: The continuance of trade in aquatic organisms in our industry while adhering to ethical trading standards. Continual Improvement of standards for keeping live organisms were deemed necessary and to ensure the highest possible standards of animal welfare be it in collection, production, keeping, handling packing and transportation procedures. To collaborate with farmers, fishermen and communities all over the world to promote ethical and sustainable production, collection and harvesting of fish and other aquatic organisms, along with the protection of such fisheries, towards the enhancement of living standards among local communities and to protect natural habitats through effective environmental and conservation programs. To achieve agreed objectives OFI will collaborate with governments, legislative bodies and all other stakeholders relating to wild-caught fish, farmed fish and other aquatic creatures. To raise awareness of and promote the industry, its methods of operation and its activities among non-members of the industry and the general public. Benefit from cooperation: OFI members from all over the world maintain contacts to exchange ideas, information and even possible suppliers and trade. Our community benefits from each other, and this sense of cooperation is strongly supported by OFI at events at tradeshows, at OFI booths at international trade shows, and at all other events wherever possible. Keeping you up to date: OFI uses a range of communication methods to keep members informed of what is happening around the world. OFI Members Updates are sent out regularly via email on all topics related to the aquarium industry. We also produce the OFI Journal (full colour magazine on trends, innovations, and reports= FREE for members and selected OFI relations). We also use Facebook, Website, and other social media platforms to inform members and the wider industry. OFI also produces a range of books or our Educational Series. These books are written by industry professionals on various aspects of the aquarium trade, for industry, science and governmental organizations. These are FREE for members and selected OFI relations. How to become a member of OFI? Attached to this email is a member information form, please complete this form with your relevant information or you can complete the form online at http://www.ofish.org/join-ofi Our Secretary General will use this to create your company profile in our members database. We also use this information to check your company’s credentials to ensure as part of our member processing procedure. New members are presented at the next Annual General Meeting the (usually they also attend & present themselves) and are then accepted as full member, unless we receive any objections from an 'old' member, if this occurs the Executive Board will assess the application again based on any objections before accepting or rejecting membership.
