GlobalPetIndex Insights brings together everything we publish about the pet industry — from breaking news and M&A tracking to market reports and data-driven rankings. The difference from a trade magazine is the base layer: every story sits on top of a structured directory of companies, so a statement like “the supplements category is consolidating” can be checked against the actual number of manufacturers, brand owners and distributors indexed in each market.

That base layer is large. The directory currently holds 113,443 published company profiles across 156 countries and territories, and 5,818 brands linked back to the companies that own them. Coverage runs from the large multinational manufacturers down to single-site converters, which is what makes the numbers useful for sourcing decisions rather than only for reading.

Topics we cover

  • Category dynamics — food, treats, supplements, apparel, grooming and beyond.
  • Regional market shifts across North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific.
  • Channel change — DTC, marketplaces, vet clinics and specialty retail.
  • Investment & M&A activity among manufacturers and platforms.
  • Regulation, sustainability and labelling trends shaping the category.

What you’ll find

  • Daily pet industry news and M&A tracking across 185 countries and territories.
  • Market reports and category deep-dives that cite their sources at the bottom of every page.
  • Rankings and leaderboards rebuilt from live directory data, not from a one-off survey.
  • Datasets and open resources for researchers, buyers and analysts.
  • Practical guides on sourcing, manufacturing and go-to-market.

Who this is written for

Insights is not written for a general audience. It is written for people who have to make a call — place an order, pick a factory, enter a market, or fund a business — and who need the reasoning behind the numbers, not just the headline.

How we work

Most industry coverage is a summary of a press release, and most market-size numbers are copied between reports until nobody remembers who measured them first. We try to publish in a way that lets you check our work.

  • Counts have a stated rule. When we say how many companies are in a market, we mean published profiles in the directory that pass the quality gate — not an estimate, and not a figure rounded up to sound impressive. Two different questions get two different numbers, and we name which one we are answering.
  • Estimates are marked. Where a figure is modelled rather than reported — per-capita pet spend, for example — it is flagged as an estimate in the table or the sentence that carries it.
  • Sources are on the page. Market-size, population and pet-population figures name the underlying reference (World Bank, FEDIAF, national pet-trade associations, company filings) so you can disagree with us precisely rather than generally.
  • Rankings are not for sale. Placement in a leaderboard is computed from directory fields — company type, country coverage, staff and revenue bands, profile completeness. A Sponsored listing is labelled as sponsored and is excluded from ranking calculations.
  • Company profiles are claimed, not invented. A profile is written from public sources first; the company itself can claim it and correct it. Where our data and the company's data disagree, we keep the company's correction and note the date.
  • Corrections are published. If a figure turns out to be wrong, we fix the page rather than quietly deleting the post. Substantive corrections are noted at the foot of the article.

Where to start

If you are new to the directory, these are the four entry points that answer the most common questions.

  • Manufacturers — find a factory by product category and country, then look at what else it makes.
  • Country markets — see how the supply side of a national market is built before you enter it.
  • Compare — put up to four countries, companies or brands side by side on the same rows.
  • Rankings — start from the leaderboard when you need a shortlist rather than a search result.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often is the news updated?

Our editorial team publishes new pet industry news and analysis continuously, with a daily digest delivered to newsletter subscribers. Market data behind rankings and country pages is refreshed on a separate cycle, so a leaderboard may change after the article that referenced it was written.

Are the market reports free?

Selected reports and rankings are free to browse. Full financial fields, bulk exports and datasets are part of the paid membership; contact details unlock against the monthly allowance on your plan.

Can I contribute research or a guest article?

Yes. Industry experts and organisations can pitch insights via our contact page. We ask for the underlying sources with the pitch, because a piece we cannot fact-check is a piece we cannot publish.

How are the rankings calculated?

Rankings combine verified company data — employees, revenue bands, export reach and profile engagement — into transparent leaderboards. The inputs are visible on each ranked profile, so you can see why a company placed where it did. Sponsored placements never participate in the calculation.

What is the difference between News, Knowledge and Rankings?

News is time-stamped and answers “what happened”. Knowledge is evergreen and answers “how does this work”. Rankings answer “who is biggest, and by what measure”. If you are sourcing, start with Knowledge for the method and Rankings for the shortlist; use News to check whether either has changed.

Do you use AI to write these pages?

Language tools help with drafting and with bulk translation of directory fields, but published analysis is edited and checked by a person, and every figure is traced to a source before it is printed. We would rather publish less than publish something we cannot stand behind.

Why does a company count sometimes differ between pages?

Because the two pages answer different questions. A country page counts the profiles indexed in that market; a category listing counts profiles carrying that category tag, which may include a company classified primarily elsewhere. Where the two appear on the same page, both are labelled.

How do I get my company covered?

Claim your existing profile, or register a new one. Coverage in editorial pieces follows the data — companies with complete, verifiable profiles are the ones that appear in rankings and market breakdowns, so completing the profile is the practical first step.

Can I cite GlobalPetIndex in my own report?

Yes, with attribution to GlobalPetIndex and a link to the page you used. If you need a stable export or a dated snapshot for a filing, the API and dataset exports give you a version you can archive rather than a page that will keep changing.
