Bonza is a plant-based (vegan) dog food brand founded by Glendon Lloyd and Catherine Lloyd. The company was formed in 2017 after Glendon Lloyd, then working in renewable energy investment, began researching the environmental impact of feeding pets meat; the project was accelerated in 2018 when both Catherine and the family dog Poppy were diagnosed with cancer. After three years of research with vets, canine nutritionists, academics and agronomists, Bonza launched its vegan dog food in early 2023. The food is formulated in-house with a board of canine veterinary nutritionists around a food-as-medicine approach, using climate-smart superfoods and ancient grains, a proprietary PhytoPlus blend of herbs, botanicals and adaptogens, and a Biotics Triad of prebiotics, probiotics and postbiotics. It excludes corn, soy, wheat and rice, is cold extruded at low temperatures and is packed in recyclable paper-based packaging.
