GlobalPetIndex Ranking Methodology

Methodology

GlobalPetIndex ranks the global pet industry with one transparent principle: every position must be explainable from public, verifiable data. This page documents exactly how the GlobalPetIndex Score is built, what data we use, and how we keep rankings independent of paid placements.

1. The GlobalPetIndex Score (0–100)

Every company in the index carries a GlobalPetIndex Score — a transparent composite of three factors. A higher score means a more complete, more verifiable and more data-rich profile, which is what buyers, distributors and researchers need to benchmark a supplier quickly.

Profile completeness
How much of the core company record is filled — description, location, contacts, product lines and categories.
Verification status
Whether the business has been verified against public records. Verified companies receive a ranking boost.
Data richness
Depth of structured data: certifications, export readiness, financial signals and linked entities.

2. How each ranking is built

Live directory rankings

Most rankings order the GlobalPetIndex company directory by the GlobalPetIndex Score within a defined scope (business type, country or product category). The scope and sort axis are stated on every ranking page, and positions recalculate as profiles change.

Curated editorial rankings

For markets where a raw directory query is not enough — for example a hand-picked index of China’s leading pet manufacturers — we publish a curated, research-backed list. Each entry is verified as a real company and scored on production capacity, OEM/ODM capability, certifications and export readiness. The correct country is baked into the list so the ranking reads accurately.

Static benchmark datasets

Some rankings present translated market-research tables (for example public retailer or industry benchmarks). These are research records, not company profiles, and we label them as such.

3. Verification-first

We do not rank a company we cannot verify. Before a business appears in a curated list we confirm it is a real, operating entity using public filings, official websites and industry trade data. Unverified or thin profiles are excluded from editorial rankings.

4. Research-supported and transparent sources

Our market context, company counts and editorial notes are built from — and cross-checked against — the following public sources:

Petfoodindustry.com — global pet food and treat manufacturer data, M&A and production capacity reporting.
Statista — market sizing and category growth figures for the pet industry.
U.S. SEC EDGAR — listed-company filings and financial disclosures.
London Stock Exchange — UK-listed company filings.
B3 (Brasil Bolsa Balcão) — Brazilian-listed company disclosures.
Euronext — European exchange filings across France, the Netherlands, Portugal and beyond.

Where a ranking references a listed company’s revenue, employee count or store footprint, the figure is traced to the relevant exchange filing above or the company’s own published report.

5. Editorial independence

No paid placement affects any ranking position. Sponsorship and membership unlock access to full lists and contact-ready profiles, but they never move a company up or down the order. The sort axis is the GlobalPetIndex Score or the stated research methodology — never commercial arrangement.

6. Appear in a ranking

  • Register or claim your profile so your data is complete and current.
  • Verify your business to receive the verification ranking boost.
  • Keep product, certification and contact data current — data richness raises your score.
