Freshpet Q2 2026 Earnings Preview: Fresh Pet Food Segment Tests Growth Thesis

Freshpet (NASDAQ: FRPT), the leading fresh and refrigerated pet food company, reports Q2 2026 results on Wednesday, August 5 before the market opens — kicking off the busiest pet-sector earnings week of the summer. Consensus estimates point to revenue of approximately $292 million (+10.4% year-over-year) and adjusted EPS of $0.21, down roughly 32% YoY as the company invests heavily in its $150 million 2026 media and awareness campaign.

The earnings print comes at a pivotal moment for the fresh pet food category. Freshpet is in the midst of an aggressive growth cycle, expanding its refrigerated fridge network to approximately 250 Tractor Supply stores with a target of at least 700 by year-end. More than 40% of Freshpet purchasers at Tractor Supply are either new to the pet food category at the retailer or reactivated buyers, validating the traffic-driving power of fresh food in the pet aisle.

CEO Billy Cyr has focused the company’s strategy on expanding beyond its core 2.5 million MVP (Most Valuable Pet Parents) households — which currently drive 71% of total revenue — by increasing middle-income penetration (now 45% of consumers) and offering 81 products priced at or under $5. The company is also shifting an increasing share of its $150 million media budget to social, influencer, and digital channels alongside traditional TV and streaming.

The report will be closely watched as a proxy for the broader premiumization thesis in pet food. A strong Q2 with constructive H2 guidance would validate that consumers remain willing to pay a premium for fresh, minimally processed pet food even in a cost-conscious environment. It would also support Tractor Supply’s pet re-acceleration strategy and provide a positive read-through for Central Garden & Pet (reporting later the same day) and Zoetis (reporting August 6).
