Munich-based online pet specialist Zooplus has launched a marketplace in Germany, adding 10,000 products to its German offering and allowing third-party sellers to reach its pan-European customer base. The marketplace went live on 5 August 2026 and is positioned as a complement to Zooplus’s existing retail assortment rather than a replacement.
According to GlobalPETS, 65% of the new marketplace products are pet accessories. The platform is integrated directly into the Zooplus online shop, so customers can browse third-party listings without switching sites. Zooplus vets sellers through an application process before they go live and notes that maintaining a high-quality customer experience remains a key consideration as the model expands.
The Germany launch follows Zooplus’s marketplace debut in France in 2024, which the company says has tripled product selection for more than 10 million customers. Zooplus told GlobalPETS it sees significant opportunity to scale the marketplace across its footprint, both by deepening existing markets and bringing the model to additional countries over time.
Orders placed through the marketplace are fulfilled directly by third-party sellers. Zooplus’s loyalty program is currently available only for products sold through its retail business, though the company is exploring extending benefits to marketplace items. Zooplus also uses AI-powered tools to enrich product catalog data, fill gaps in product information, and improve discoverability.
For pet manufacturers and distributors, the Zooplus marketplace is a structural signal: European pet e-commerce is evolving from pure retail inventory risk toward platform economics. The move gives smaller brands access to a large, established pet audience while creating new price and assortment transparency for incumbent suppliers.
