Petco Health and Wellness Company, Inc. is a pet specialty retailer headquartered in San Diego, California. Founded in 1965, the company operates pet care centers across the United States, Mexico and Puerto Rico, selling pet food, consumables, supplies and companion animals while providing grooming, training and veterinary services. At the end of fiscal 2025 it operated 1,382 stores and employed roughly 29,000 people.
Petco runs an omnichannel business through petco.com and its mobile app, and has built a veterinary network that includes in-store hospitals together with Vetco vaccination and mobile clinics. Its service offering also covers grooming salons and dog training. The company sells national brands alongside its own labels and has identified fresh and frozen nutrition as a growth priority.
Petco has traded on Nasdaq under the ticker WOOF since its 2021 initial public offering, and works with Petco Love, an independent nonprofit founded in 1999, on animal welfare and in-store adoption events.
