Thai customs officers at Chong Chom and the Nakhon Ratchasima fisheries office seized more than 300 lines of imported pet food from two shops, worth THB300,000 to THB500,000. The products, feed for fish, birds, rabbits, turtles and hamsters, carried no customs clearance evidence and no Thai ingredient labels.

A revised wildlife protection regulation took effect in Chongqing on 1 November, expanding the municipal rule from 20 articles to 30 and adding penalties for organising close public contact with dangerous captive-bred wildlife. Fines run from RMB 1,000 to RMB 10,000 after a warning, buying animals without proof of legal origin carries confiscation plus one to ten times their value, and administrative penalties now enter the public credit system. The rule reaches exhibitions, pet cafes and breeding operations.

Ecuador's national statistics institute INEC has added pet food to the country's Basic Family Consumption Basket for the first time since the index was created, effective July 2026. The revised basket grew from 75 to 98 items and now carries a $14.78 monthly allocation for pet food, following last year's VAT exemption on pet food that the government expects to reach more than 8 million pet-owning households.
